BACK TO WORK

Made for the RODE short film competition in 2021. It was later submitted to the

FilmFreeway Festival circuit from 2021-2023.

In 2023 it was awarded an Honorable Mention at The Purple Sky Festival for Best Covid Script, was nominated for Best Original Screenplay at the Cannes Short Film Festival, and made a Semi-Finalist at the London Indie Short Film Festival for Best Script, and won an award for Exceptional Achievement at the MDIFF in 2022.

I wrote the screenplay in response to the 'new normal' post-lockdowns. Back To Work was co-produced by myself and the incredible team at Glass Mountain Films

JUST A CAR

Originally made for the Mercedes-Benz Bokeh Film Festival in Cape Town in 2016. It was later submitted to the FilmFreeway Festival circuit from 2017-2020. It won Best Short Film awards at three festivals, namely the LA Shorts and The Sofies in 2017, and the Olympus Film Festival in LA in 2019. I feel privileged to have co-directed and co-produced Just a Car

with my wonderful team at Bench Films.

I wrote Just a Car in loving memory of my late father, Clive Ivan Doubell 1952-2005.

LONELY LIGHTS

Lonely Lights was inspired by the heart-wrenching daily reality of living in South Africa and the disparity between rich and poor. The story depicts a friendship between two children from opposite sides of society. I originally produced, directed, and wrote it as part of a fun 48-hour film project, in 2015, where it was nominated for Best Sound Track & Best Supporting Actress. It was later submitted across the Film Freeway Festival circuit where it was awarded Honorable Mention by Social Impact Film Festival in 2023.

THE VAGINA MONOLOGUES

Sadly, South Africa had a high rate of GBV.

In 2016 I felt inspired by activist Eve Ensler's global campaign VDAY and decided to join

our production team up to the platform, bringing VDAY to Cape Town for five years.

From 2016 to 2020 I had the honour of directing, producing, and sometimes appearing in The Vagina Monologues, as well as other VDAY benefit plays like MMRP.  Benefit productions were hosted at various sponsored venues every February & August, raising funds for many South African charities that support women in various capacities. In 2020 our team raised over 10k for Rape Crisis.

BLUEBERRY TOAST

An absurdist comedy about a dysfunctional family holding onto the last threads of their perfect 'American dream' life, cleverly written by Yale graduate Mary Laws and produced several times at the Artscape Arena and The Foundry in Cape Town, South Africa from

2018 to 2019

RELATIONSHIT!

It could happen to you

I wrote this play in my college days in London. It is a fly-on-the-wall approach to relationships and the insane but intimate things people argue about behind closed doors!
It is a comedy set in the year 1999 and points to the uncertainty and changes we experienced around the millennium. I openly confess to having been massively influenced by my addiction (at the time) to TV programs like 'Friends' and 'Sex and the City.' It is still one of my most fun productions to date! I directed and produced the play several times in the UK and South Africa from 2001 to 2011.
